David Farrier

After Tickled comes David Farrier’s next project, “Dark Tourist”

In 2016, New Zealanders David Farrier and Dylan Reeve directed Tickled, a documentary about competitive endurance tickling. But the pair finds themselves investigating something much more sinister, uncovering secret identities and blackmail and end up facing legal threats.

Now Netflix has commissioned Dark Tourist, a docuseries lead by Farrier and made by him and his friends. Also of note is that this is the first unscripted Netflix original from New Zealand. Previously, Netflix has worked with TVNZ in New Zealand and ABC Me in Australia to create scripted children’s fantasy series, The New Legends of Monkey.

Like the mysteries Farrier uncovers, much is still secret about this show. No images, no trailer. All we have is the Netflix description which reads, “From a nuclear lake to a haunted forest, journalist David Farrier visits unusual — and often macabre — tourism spots around the world.” Oh, and the Netflix tag is “provocative.”

Dark Tourist will be released on Netflix in New Zealand on July 21st at 7pm.

Update: A trailer has been released shedding some light on David Farrier’s Dark Tourist.
