Wellington Paranormal is a spin-off series from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement whose mockumentary vampire film, What We Do in the Shadows, explored a flat of vampires living together in Wellington, New Zealand.
Paranormal stars the memorable Wellington police officers from Shadows; Officer O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) and Officer Minogue (Mike Minogue). Think The X-Files, Kiwi edition. Okay, being a mockumentary it’s more Police Ten 7 but with a more paranormal bent.
Wellington Paranormal is coming to TVNZ 2 and TVNZ OnDemand every Wednesday at 8.30pm, starting July 11th.
If that’s not enough, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are also helming a more direct adaptation for American audiences on the FX network, which is handy as Clement has already been sporting his rugged good looks on X-Men spinoff, Legion. Unfortunately, Shadows sequel We’re Wolves is not coming anytime soon (Waititi half-joked, it would take them seven years!), but at least we’ve got these shows to sink our teeth into.

TV has always been a part of Michael’s life, but since the influx of streaming shows now he can’t stop (someone send help). He also dabbles in films and video games, and has a mean board game collection.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. He has previously written about video games for publications including Game Console, Salient, and ButtonMasher.
