It’s the year for virtual reality (VR) hitting the mainstream. First, we had Stephen Spielberg’s adaptation of the novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One, in March. Now comes Kiss Me First, a six-episode series first released on Channel 4 in the UK and coming to Netflix on June 29th.
Based on the novel by Lottie Moggach, Kiss Me First is created by Bryan Elsley, who co-created UK favourite, Skins, with his son Jamie Brittain.
Okay, sure their virtual world doesn’t have nearly the same level of detail as Speilberg’s but it looks as if the VR is more a conceit for telling a more personal story in the real world.

TV has always been a part of Michael’s life, but since the influx of streaming shows now he can’t stop (someone send help). He also dabbles in films and video games, and has a mean board game collection.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. He has previously written about video games for publications including Game Console, Salient, and ButtonMasher.
