A glimpse at the new YouTube Red Originals

Get ready for yet another streaming platform and a whole new bunch of shows. So we know YouTube Red Originals has given another platform to YouTube celebrities including SMOSH (sorry PewDiePie). But you might not have known YouTube is entering the fictional series game with some new shows including:

Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes On Television —starring Ryan Hansen as himself spoofing the typical crime procedural formula pairing a detective with a partner from a seemingly unrelated profession, such as a writer (Castle), or even a magician (Deception), to name a few. This one has an actor helping solve crimes with his acting skills. Also starring Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) as the hard-nosed detective.

Do You Want to See a Dead Body? — based on the Funny or Die series, follows Rob Huebel (Transparent) as he takes his celebrity friends on adventures.

Good Game — a comedy about an eSports league starring actual Let’s Players Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan from Game GrumpsRick and Morty writers Sarah Carbiener and Erica Rosbe are on board as well as Dan Harmon as an executive producer.

Lifeline — is about a team of insurance agents sent to the future to prevent the deaths of their clients. With low budget sci-fi action, from the few seconds we have seen, admittedly this looks cheeseball as hell. Interestingly this is being made by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s production company Seven Bucks, sadly he won’t be starring in it.

YouTube Red Originals is available in New Zealand.

TV has always been a part of Michael’s life, but since the influx of streaming shows now he can’t stop (someone send help). He also dabbles in films and video games, and has a mean board game collection.

Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. He has previously written about video games for publications including Game Console, Salient, and ButtonMasher.
