Ladies and gentleman, I am pleased to announce we have brought on a new writer. I would like to welcome aboard Matty Reeves! I’ve hit Matty with some questions so you can get to know a little more about our newest writer.
What do you like most about stories told on television?
I like what everyone probably likes, the way the stories are told in chapters. Unlike a film, TV chops up a much longer story into chunks, instead of one big climax in the middle there is one every episode! Characters have time to develop, the writers have to keep things interesting for much longer, and I find television is able to create worlds that suck you in and grow around you. Which is what makes it so addictive.
What is your favourite show?
What an evil question. For the official record I have to say The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd. Equally. More recently I fell in love with Over the Garden Wall. Watch it! Trust me.
Is there a show you missed the boat on and for whatever reason have not been able to watch it even though you wanted to? Complete hypothetical.
When this happens I usually do end up watching it at some point, as with Gossip Girl (though I gave up halfway through) and Game of Thrones, but I never got round to watching Breaking Bad, which has been sitting on the list for a while now. But I will get to it someday, really. I mean it.
Do you have a favourite TV snack?
Not so much a snack but I do enjoy pounding cups of tea when I’m watching TV. Anytime, any show.
What’s your favourite season of TV so far this year?
Really loved Season Four of Sherlock because that show is just always so brilliant.
Is there a show you are most looking forward to in this later half of the year? And is it Game of Thrones?
Yes. And yes. Also Stranger Things, and Rick and Morty, if it ever happens. (It’s never gonna happen).
What is your longest binge?
During a Winter break I did about three days and nights straight of Friends. But it was only the fourth or fifth time I’d watched them all the way through, so completely justified.
What else should our readers know about you?
I definitely spend more time in the lighter realm of TV; sitcoms, comedies, cartoons, kids shows, reality and teen trash. I also love getting nostalgic and watching old favourites. Of course I like a bit of everything, but hopefully I’ll be able to bring some under-appreciated and overlooked shows to light!
Thanks Matty! Right now you can check out Matty’s very first review of Chewing Gum: Season Two.

TV has always been a part of Michael’s life, but since the influx of streaming shows now he can’t stop (someone send help). He also dabbles in films and video games, and has a mean board game collection.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. He has previously written about video games for publications including Game Console, Salient, and ButtonMasher.
